Abstract

A direct current (DC) microgrid has been the preferred power system in recent years because of the system's overall efficiency. Finding a suitable protection strategy is the primary issue with DC microgrids. The most promising technology for renewable energy is photovoltaic systems. In order to create a DC microgrid that can function both on-grid and in island mode, the basic components are a photovoltaic (PV) system with Boost converter, a battery with Buck converter, a voltage source converter (VSC), and an AC main grid. When an issue arises with the AC main grid, a voltage source converter and several relay types, including circuit breakers, are utilized to protect the DC microgrid. The study of DC microgrid protection and its effects on other devices is the main topic of this study. Additionally, it desires to give information about their function in improving the flexibility of electrical power networks and reducing the negative consequences of overcurrent issues. MATLAB SIMULINK is used to simulate and model the PV and battery linked to the main grid with various fault kinds and by employing different overcurrent protection techniques. Their features are analysed.
