Generative AI Usage Policy
1. On the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence
In compliance with Scopus requirements and to maintain transparency and integrity in academic publishing, the Journal of Engineering and Technology for Industrial Applications has established the following policy regarding the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) and AI-assisted technologies in the preparation, review, and publication of manuscripts.
2. Fundamental Principle
Human authors are fully responsible for all content submitted to the Journal of Engineering and Technology for Industrial Applications. Generative AI tools cannot be listed or considered as authors or co-authors, as they cannot assume responsibility for the work developed, hold copyright, or consent to publication. Authors must ensure that their work is original and that any AI-assisted sections are carefully reviewed and approved by all named authors.
3. Permitted Uses
Authors may use GenAI tools exclusively for the following purposes:
Improving language and readability (grammar checking, spelling correction, and stylistic suggestions) (with human verification);
Assisting with editing and revision (with human verification);
Formatting references (with human verification).
Any content generated or suggested by AI must be carefully reviewed and edited by the human author(s), who are responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the final work.
4. Prohibited Uses
The following uses are strictly prohibited:
Generating or manipulating research data, results, or images;
Creating or suggesting citations and references without verification, as AI may create or suggest references that do not exist;
Drafting scientific rationales, discussions, or significant conclusions without substantial human intellectual contribution;
Listing AI as an author or co-author;
Using AI to generate the entire manuscript without significant human intellectual contribution;
Using AI to replace or assist in peer review or editorial decisions.
5. Disclosure Requirement
Any use of GenAI in the preparation of the manuscript must be expressly disclosed in a separate section entitled “Generative AI Use Statement”, placed before the References section. If no Generative AI tools were used, this section may be omitted.
6. Mandatory Statement Format
"During the preparation of this manuscript, the author(s) used [TOOL NAME] for [PURPOSE OF USE, e.g., improving language and readability, checking grammar, formatting references]. After using this tool, the author(s) reviewed and edited the content as necessary and assume full responsibility for the content of the published manuscript."
7. Policy for Reviewers and Editors
Manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Engineering and Technology for Industrial Applications are confidential documents. Reviewers and editors must not upload any manuscript or any part of it into generative AI tools or public AI platforms (such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc.). Doing so violates confidentiality, intellectual property rights, and the integrity of the peer-review process. All reviews and editorial decisions must be based on human intellectual analysis and may not be generated or assisted by Generative AI.
8. Policy for the Editorial Team
The editorial team must not use AI tools to make decisions regarding manuscript suitability, peer-review assignments, or acceptance. All editorial judgments must be made by human editors based on their expertise and the feedback provided by reviewers.
9. Consequences of Non-Compliance
Failure to comply with this policy may result in:
Rejection of the manuscript without review;
Retraction of published articles;
Notification of the author's institution or funding agency;
A temporary ban on submitting articles to the journal.
10. Verification of Manuscript Integrity and Originality
The editorial team may question the use of AI if concerns arise during the review process (for example, unnatural phrasing, unacceptable or fabricated references, or inconsistencies in writing style). Authors may be requested to provide documentation regarding the use of AI tools and to explain their contribution to the work.
11. Questions and Guidance
If there is any uncertainty regarding compliance with or the appropriateness of using Generative Artificial Intelligence tools during manuscript preparation, authors are encouraged to consult the editorial team of the Journal of Engineering and Technology for Industrial Applications before submitting the article. The editorial team is available to provide guidance, clarify questions, and assist in the application of relevant editorial guidelines.
