Resumen

This paper outlines the design and development of an interactive touchscreen interface on smart recycling machines to enhance the user interaction and efficiency of the machine. The system unites material detection in the form of sensors with a user-friendly interface to simplify the recycling process. The results of the evaluation show that the average time to finish a task was reduced to 20 seconds with experienced users, with a general task success rate of 96. The average response time was 250 ms with a reliability of 98.5% uptime. Accuracy in material classification was 95% in metal and 92% in plastic, indicating good performance in categories. The analysis of user satisfaction also showed a general rating of 4.4 on 5, which indicated high usability and learnability. The results affirm that the developed interface can greatly boost the interaction efficiency and recycling accuracy which can facilitate better practices of waste management and user engagement with smart recycling systems.
