In power systems, attaining a stable equilibrium between consumed and generated power is difficult, exclusively with the incorporation of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) such Photovoltaic (PV) system. This research implements the Hybrid Komodo-Mlipir–Mantis Shrimp Optimization (HKM-MSO) based Proportional-Integral (PI) controller in a two-area PV–thermal system for Load Frequency Control (LFC). This design has the two area power system which comprises thermal reheat power plant and PV system. The HKM-MSO attains a better balance by incorporating the hierarchical cooperative search of Komodo dragons with vision based strategy of mantis shrimps. It has resilience beside parameter variations and nonlinearities with better convergence speed and averts premature convergence. The overall research is simulated in MATLAB/SIMULINK tool, demonstrates the HKM-MSO–PI controller has better performance interms of settling time with 10.5s, overshoot of 0.0156 and regulation of frequency. Moreover, this research attains a decrement in undershoot, indicating better dynamic response and robustness than existing techniques.
